6.3" Dark Purple Amethyst Cluster With Stand - Large Points

This is a beautiful amethyst crystal cluster that was collected from Minas Gerais, Brazil. It consists of large, sparkling, deep purple amethyst crystals. There is nice agate banding around the outer rim of the cluster and a small amount of goethite crystals both included within the crystals and on top of them. The amethyst cluster is accompanied by a metal display stand that is removable. It displays wonderfully both on and off the stand, depending on preferred presentation.

There is only small amounts of minor chipping around some of the edges, though this does not detract from the beauty of the piece.

Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz (SiO2) and owes its violet color to natural irradiation, iron impurities, and the presence of trace elements, which result in complex crystal lattice substitutions. It is considered a semi-precious gemstone, and just two centuries ago was considered to have a value on par with diamonds, sapphires and rubies.

Much of the world’s amethyst comes from extensive deposits in Southern Brazil that have been heavily mined for about a century. The amethyst occurs in large cavities or geodes within volcanic rocks and the coloration and crystal size can vary greatly.
