8.9" Green/Gray Quartz "Jewelry Box" Geode With Metal Stand

This is a beautiful green and gray quartz geode from Artigas, Uruguay which has been cut open, polished, and mounted on a custom stand allowing both halves to be displayed. The quartz crystals feature gorgeous green/gray coloration.

There is an amazing druzy-covered calcite formation prominently displayed inside of the lower half and there are many other calcites scattered about.

The dimensions of the base half are 8.9 x 7.9 x 2.9" and the lid half of this geode is 7.9 x 6.9 x 1.2".

Quartz is the name given to silicon dioxide (SiO2) and is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Quartz crystals generally grow in silica-rich environments--usually igneous rocks or hydrothermal environments like geothermal waters--at temperatures between 100°C and 450°C, and usually under very high pressure. In either case, crystals will precipitate as temperatures cool, just as ice gradually forms when water freezes. Quartz veins are formed when open fissures are filled with hot water during the closing stages of mountain formation: these veins can be hundreds of millions of years old.
