Triple Coltraneia Trilobite Association - Huge Faceted Eyes

This is a natural association of three nicely prepared Coltraneia oufatenensis trilobites from Ofaten, Morocco. Coltraneia which has often been referred to as a Treveropyge in the past has distinctive, large, tower eyes with hundreds of eye facets. All three specimens are around 2" in length, laid out prone and have great preparation and eye facet preservation. Only about 1% restoration in total, mostly some touchups along repaired cracks and on top of a few axial rings in one specimen.

A really cool display piece.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
