Serrated, 2" Tyrannosaur Tooth in Rock - Judith River Formation

This is a very nice 2" Tyrannosaur tooth that has been almost entirely exposed from the rock in which it was found. This tooth is from the Judith River Formation of Montana. There are small shell and bone fragments throughout the sandstone, along with what appears to be a triceratops "spit tooth". The tooth was removed from the sandstone, repaired and later remounted back to the sandstone from which it was found. The sandstone and Tyrannosaur tooth fragments have been stabilized with glue to ensure structural integrity.

The serrations are present along both edges of the tooth and the enamel preserved with beautiful coloration. There are two repaired cracks towards the tip of the tooth, as well as some feeding wear.

Three species of tyrannosaur have been described from the Two Medicine & Judith River Formations: Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Research done on teeth from these three tyrannosaurs has concluded that isolated teeth are statistically impossible to assign to a specific genus because they are so similar.
