Large, 3.3" Stalk-Eyed Asaphus Kowalewskii Trilobite - Russia

This is a 3.3" long, stalk-eyed trilobite Asaphus kowalewskii. It is Middle Ordovician in age and was collected at the Vilpovitsy quarry in the St. Petersburg region of Russia. The stalk eyes likely allowed to survey it's surroundings while remaining buried in the mud.

At over 3" long this specimen is very large for the species. There is some minimal shell restoration along repaired fractures in the shell which tends to flake during collection on these trilobites.
