8.1" Pennsylvanian Fossil Horsetail (Calamites?) Plate - Kentucky

This is a 8.1" wide plate of fossil horsetail (Calamites?) stalk sections from the Breathitt Formation of Leslie County, Kentucky. Calamites is an extinct genus of tree-like horsetails from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Kentucky and Ohio.

Sphenophyllum sp. and Calamites sp. stalks can be very similar in structure, however i believe this to be Calamites.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
