6.8" Fossil Salamander (Chelotriton) - Gračanica, Bosnia

This is a gorgeous, 6.8" long (straightline) fossil salamander (Chelotriton paradoxus) from Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is a very well preserved specimen with excellent bone preservation. The rock that it was prepped from has been cut flat along its edges and measures 11.2 x 6.8", and if completely outstretched, the salamander would measure about 9.5" long. The rock in which the salamander was found is rather thin so a backing has been applied for stability.

Chelotriton is an extinct genus of salamander that closely resembles two living salamanders Tylototriton and Echinotriton.

It comes with an acrylic-metal display stand.

There are a couple repaired cracks through the rock/fossil. Small spots of gap fill restoration was required within the crack through the pectoral region of the salamander. a couple of the hand bones on the right hand have been restored.
