4.2" Fossil Horsetail (Annularia) Plate - Pennsylvania

These are Pennsylvanian age fossil leaf whorls of an extinct horsetail (Annularia stellata), collected from the Llewellyn formation of Pennsylvania. Annularia is a plant fossil from the Carboniferous period. These horsetails grew to a height of 30 feet in a tree-like form. They are indicative of a humid, wet habitat such as a lake shore. The dark orange-brown color of these detailed fern fossils contrasts well against the orange rock they are preserved in.

There is a second fern specimen on this plate that appears to be either pecopteris or alethopteris. A display stand is included with the purchase.
