2.5" Stalk-Eyed Asaphus Kowalewskii Trilobite - Russia

This is a 2.5" long (including eye stalks), stalk-eyed trilobite Asaphus kowalewskii. It is Middle Ordovician in age and was collected at the Vilpovitsy quarry in the St. Petersburg region of Russia. The stalk eyes likely allowed to survey it's surroundings while remaining buried in the mud.

Like nearly all of the asaphid trilobites from these quarries there is shell restoration as it tends to flake off during collection. Most of this shell restoration is along the top of the axis, probably about 10% in total.
