17.5" Hadrosaur Femur - Two Medicine Formation

This is a well preserved, 17.5" long Hadrosaur (Duck-Billed Dinosaur) femur from the Two Medicine Formation in Montana. The bone is solid with very little erosion and just some crack fill restoration in the repaired cracks.

There are quite a few described species of Hadrosaurs from the Two Medicine Formation including Maiasaura, Hypacrosaurus, Gryposaurus, etc. Assigning an isolated bone to a particular species is often just guesswork, so we've left the species as unidentified.

Hadrosaurs are frequently referred to as duck-billed dinosaurs and are members of the Ornithischian family Hadrosauridae. They were fairly common herbivores that roamed Asia, Europe, and North America during the Upper Cretaceous Period. Many species of Hadrosaurs had distinctive crests on their heads, some of which had air-filled chambers that may have produced a distinct sound. These crests may have been used for both audio and visual display purposes.
