16.8" Priscacara & Diplomystus Fossil Fish Plate - Wyoming

This is a excellent, natural assocation of a large, 9.7" long Priscacara serrata next to a 7" Diplomystus. These fossil fish come from the 18 inch layer of the Green River Formation at the Lindgren Quarry near Kemmerer, WY. At nearly 10 inches long is large Priscacara and it has exceptional preservation.

Both both fish are nicely presented on a thick, 16.8x11" slab of shale. It comes with a display stand but we can add a backing and wall mounting hardware for a small additional charge.

It comes from the coveted 18 inch layer of the Green River Formation which produces darker and more detailed fish than the majority on the market. The rock from this layer is much harder and more durable. This layer is typically collected at night using low angle light to see the bump in the rock that the back bone creates. They then cut these fish out and take them to a lab where the fish which may be up to an inch under the surface of the rock are meticulously extracted under microscope with hand tools.
