15.5" Fossil Flora (Neuropteris & Macroneuropteris) Plate - Kentucky

This is a large and beautiful fossil flora plate that contains Neuropteris and Macroneuropteris fossils, as well as long scale tree (Lepidodendron sp.) leaves (Cyperites). This plate was collected from the Breathitt Formation of Leslie County, Kentucky. It comes from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Kentucky and Ohio.

Neuropteris is an extinct genus of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns. As with most seed ferns, Neurodontopteridaceae grew in tree form.

Lepidodendron is a genus of extinct, primitive, vascular, tree-like plants most closely related to gill worts and club mosses that grew up to 98ft (30 m) and had trunks 3.2ft (1 m) in diameter.

Comes with a display stand.
