1.7" Cretaceous Sea Urchin (Hemicidaris) Fossil - United Kingdom

This is a Late Cretaceous age Echinocorys scutata fossil urchin from the White Chalk group (Upper Chalk) of the United Kingdom. This sea urchin has a naturally associated bivalved attached to it. Echinocorys remains have been found in Asia, Europe and North America.

Sea urchins are a type of echinoderm that are still living relatively unchanged today. They live at the bottom of soft ocean floors and have long spines protruding from their central bodies. They move along the bottom of the ocean using many small feet while feeding on various plant and animal matter.
