1.5" Spiny Koneprusia Trilobite - Foum Zguid, Morocco

This is a 1.5" long Koneprusia trilobite from the Timrhanrhart Formation near Foum Zguid, Morocco. Nearly all of the spines have been prepared free standing and the trilobite, left "flying" on a pedestal of limestone creating a very spectacular display.

Several of the spines near the back on the right hand side maybe composites and there are some areas of shell restoration along repaired cracks running through the head and right hand size of the thorax.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
