This is a well preserved Scaphites carlilensis ammonite from the Upper Cretaceous of Osborne County, Kansas These ammonites are found inside of hard concretions (nodules) which are broken open to reveal them. In this case the concretion has been shaped to create a beautiful, free-standing display.
