Polished Chiapas Amber With Bug Inclusions ( g) - Mexico #102817

This is a nicely polished piece of amber, collected from Chiapas, Mexico. It is 1.1" wide, and bares a wonderful golden-yellow color with wavy layers of darker amber. This amber specimen is completely unaltered, and contains inclusions that can best be viewed under microscope. At least three of these inclusions are bugs. One resembles a wasp (order Hymenoptera), however due to its lack of clarity and the dark color of the amber, it's difficult to conclusively identify this bug.

Amber is fossilized tree resin that sometimes contains inclusions such as plant matter, fungi, and insects. This amber comes from mines in Chiapas, Mexico, and was formed during the Early/Middle Miocene (15-23 million years ago). The amber was produced by either the two extinct leguminous trees Hymenaea mexicana or Hymenaea allendis, both of which were initially described from fossil flowers included in Mexican amber.
